There are lots of reasons why DIY is great for your wedding, particularly if you are on a tight budget. Now, I'm not saying don't do DIY for your wedding as it can really help you connect with the big day and help you feel you've really created this special day. BUT sometimes getting someone in to do some of the details you were considering doing DIY can be a brilliant decision, they can complete your order to perfection which not only saves you time, stress and money but can get you those details you want well within your budget.
There are so many things to think about when planning a wedding and sometimes having one less thing to think about (like lots and lots of DIY) particularly when it comes to the finishing touches can be a sanity saver!
Get the Look!...
For many brides to be it is the look of their wedding day that is vitally important to them- every finishing detail, colour and finish is thought through and selected. This takes time and if you are going to add a DIY element to achieve this, then this can add to the workload. So choose carefully the element you want to DIY in terms of time you will spend doing it as well as the realistic finish you as a DIY-er can create.
Finishing details like name tags or table number cards might not take you very long if you just handwrite them yourself, but they won't look the same as someone you has been doing calligraphy for a bit longer and can come up with creative handwritten and drawn designs for you. Plus these elements are what gives your wedding tables, venue and gifts their sparkle and elegance.
It is often the smaller little touches that guests exclaim were amazing!
Doing flowers or buttonholes on the morning of your wedding might not be how you imagined your wedding day to start off with! Having dried flower elements in your day means you can order them well in advance (saving time and stress) and have them come out of the packaging as fresh as when you opened them. But doing them yourself can be tricky and take longer than you think!
If you want a luxurious handwritten finish with glossy, metallic inks and beautiful fonts, then it is going to be difficult to achieve that through DIY without spending months training to develop your writing style and the end product might not be quite what you wanted, which would be such a shame as the finishing details are what often tie the whole feel of the wedding together.
If you are worried that the only way to achieve what you are thinking of and keep to your budget is through DIY then it might be an idea to consider which elements to choose to DIY as many finishing touches can be less expensive than you realise. Getting in contact with someone who makes bespoke handmade pieces that really listens to you and your ideas should help you be able to deliver exactly what you have been dreaming of with your budget!
If you are worried about blowing the budget with handwritten touches then its great to realise that not all your wedding tables or features have to have the same touches, and being selective can help you achieve gorgeous details within budget.
*Select handwritten name tags for just for the top table or thank you wedding gifts or Bridesmaids Bouquets and Groomsmen's buttonholes. These little details sing out strong amongst your wedding design.
*Combine the handwritten name tag or place cards with your wedding favours to make them really shine.
*Select handwritten envelopes which feature just the guest's name in beautiful whimsical calligraphy, rather than
The long and short of it is.... to DIY or not DIY.....I would say it's fine to DIY some things for your wedding day but make sure you select some stunning details to go along with them too!
